In August 2026, Sushi Yoko / Kimono Club took part in Chibi-Con in Winterthur, Switzerland, for the second year in a row. From a fully-booked Matcha Workshop and our Yukata sales & dressing corner to a brand-new calligraphy experience, here’s a look back at a day full of Japanese culture.
Our Matcha Workshop Was a Huge Hit at This Swiss Event
Our Matcha Workshop on Day 1 was completely booked out before it even started. Tea ceremony instructor Mayumi Lehmann, who travelled specially from Germany, led an authentic tea ceremony, while we added a Matcha & Tea Ceremony Quiz to make the experience fun for everyone.
Our Yukata Sales & Dressing Booth Was Also a Great Success
Our Yukata corner was busy all day long. A big thank you to Hayami, joining us for the second year running, as well as Akemi, Sachiko and the rest of our wonderful team for taking such great care of every visitor.
New This Year: Free “Your Name in Japanese Calligraphy” Corner
This year we introduced a brand-new activity: “Your Name in Japanese Calligraphy” (free of charge). Right next to our Yukata booth, we set up brush and ink and wrote each guest’s name on the spot, using kanji or phonetic characters.
The idea is simple: seeing your own name transformed into a unique piece of calligraphy naturally draws people in. Many guests who had their name written went on to explore our Yukata corner as well, making it both a great conversation starter and a memorable experience in itself.
All you need is a brush, ink and some paper — low cost, low effort, high impact. It’s an activity that translates easily to corporate events looking to combine cultural engagement with foot traffic. Joyful Reunions and an Overwhelming Response
With another festival taking place at the same time, we had been a little worried about turnout beforehand. That worry turned out to be completely unfounded — the interest in matcha, yukata and Japanese culture overwhelmed us. Reconnecting with cosplayers and visitors we had met last year made the day even more special.
